The lakes at HFF were established in
1988 and began life as a commercial fish farm. The emphasis then was
the breeding of exotic carp - kois, Golden Orphe etc. Many of the
original fish can still be found in the two main lakes.
In the year 2000 the lakes were bought
by the present owner and the dayticket business which we see today was
founded.
Since then the fishery has progressed
year on year under the sole management of Mr. Barry Washington.

Fishery Manager, Barry Washington, has been at Home Farm Fisheries from
day one. Barry is also a keen Carp angler as shown above
and below with two catches from 2007 of 22lb
and 26lb. He oversees all the activities at the fishery and determines
the re-stocking decisions which are undertaken twice a year.
Barry
is convinced that 2010 will see catches of carp over the 30lb mark and
catfish over 60lb
All matches and reservations for night fishing should be booked
directly with Barry on:

In 2003
it was decided to introduce Wells catfish to the specimen lake. These
would compliment the extensive carp stock. Following the
purchase of catfish stock from Burton Mere
the record catfish now stands at 59lb 6oz with larger
weights expected soon which is testament to the water
quality and gives a growth rate of over 4lb per year. The carp strains
are - common, mirror, ghost and grass carp. The current carp record is
a 28lb 6oz mirror
caught in 2007. There are well over 150 double-figure carp and many
more of 20lb and over. There are also many large Perch, the largest so
far weighing in at 4lb 12oz

Each year has seen vast improvements.
There has been an extensive annual restocking of quality fish and
a major replanting programme of aquatic and land based plants, which
gives the site its present day picture postcard appearance.
